How My Calendar Keeps Me (Mostly) Sane While Running a Business

I constantly get asked, “Ash, how do you manage 2 kids, 2 businesses, and everything else life throws your way?

It turns out, my lifelong calendar obsession is the secret weapon to motherhood.

I know what you’re thinking. It sounds corporate and cold, but seriously, it’s the damn truth. I don’t even want to know who I would be without my calendar. 😶

MY CALENDAR AS A SINGLE SOURCE OF TRUTH

Being present for my girls has always been, and will always be, my number one priority. Getting them ready, going on walks, making breakfast and dinner… in those moments, work isn’t even a thought.

The only reason I can maintain the balance I’ve always desired is my calendar. Everything (and I mean everything) I do is on there.

  • Workouts

  • Family dinners

  • Wine nights

  • Meetings

  • Daycare drop-offs

  • Midday sauna sessions

my ceo mission

In the most professional way possible, I’ve refused to take calls while spending time with my daughters, Ryan and Peyton, over the past few months.

I’ll even put my phone in another room and set it to Do Not Disturb. Because, to me, it really is that serious.

With that commitment to my family comes a commitment to managing my time intentionally. It’s not laziness or lack of drive, but redefining balance and letting go of the idea that I have to do everything, all of the time.

It Takes a Village

If you are running a business while juggling everything else life throws at you, never underestimate the power of a well-organized calendar. It is not glamorous advice, but it is real, and it works.

And outside of my calendar obsession, I will say this — we have been incredibly lucky with the support surrounding us. From daycare drop-offs to Peyton sitting in on calls to Jordan taking the girls for a stroll so I can decompress with a glass of wine, the people in our corner make all the difference.

When they say it takes a village, they really mean it.
