Your Black Friday Launch Will Flop If You Wait Until the Week Of to Prep
Hot take: your Black Friday launch will flop if you wait until the week of to prep for it.
Not because you’re bad at marketing. Not because your offer isn’t good. But because by the time most businesses start thinking about Black Friday, the businesses that are going to win it are already three weeks deep into the work that makes it possible.
Black Friday is not one day anymore. In the online business world, it’s an entire season that starts earlier every year & rewards the people who planned for it like it mattered. Which it does. A lot.
Here’s what actually needs to happen before November if you want your launch to convert.
Your website needs to be ready before the traffic arrives.
Nothing will kill a Black Friday launch faster than a broken checkout link, a CTA that doesn’t work on mobile, or a page that takes twelve seconds to load when someone is trying to give you their credit card. These are not dramatic problems. They are small, fixable, embarrassing things that cost real money when they’re discovered in the middle of a launch instead of before it.
Before your Black Friday push goes live, every automation in your funnel should be tested end-to-end. Every CTA should be clicked. Every link should work. Site speed should be checked & optimized because page load time directly impacts conversion rates & during a high-traffic period, slow pages lose sales at a rate that will make you want to close your laptop forever.
This is not exciting work. It is absolutely necessary work. Do it now, while you have time to fix things, not at 11pm on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving when your launch is live & something is broken.
You need to know what converts before the launch rush starts.
Black Friday is the worst possible time to be testing your strategy for the first time. Every business with an online presence is competing for your audience’s attention in the same window, which means the margin for error is smaller & the cost of getting it wrong is higher.
The businesses that clean up on Black Friday are almost never the ones who figured it out during the launch. They’re the ones who spent October understanding what was resonating with their audience & refined their approach before the noise got loud.
That means testing your hooks now. Running your lead magnets now. Looking at what content is stopping the scroll & what’s getting ignored. You want to walk into Black Friday with data, not hope. What subject line format is getting your emails opened? What kind of offer framing is clicking with your audience? What landing page copy is converting & what’s just getting people to bounce?
Answer those questions in October so you’re not guessing in November.
Your audience needs to be warm before the offer goes live.
This is the piece most businesses skip & it’s the one that matters most.
A warmed-up audience is exponentially more likely to convert than one seeing your offer for the first time on Black Friday. People do not go from cold to checkout in one step, especially not when they’re being bombarded with offers from every direction. They need to know who you are, trust that you deliver, & feel like buying from you is an obvious decision before they’re ever asked to make it.
That means the list-building, the nurture sequences, the content that builds authority & relationship, all of that has to be happening right now. Not when your launch page goes live. Not in the week before. Now.
If someone joins your list for the first time on November 28th, they are almost certainly not buying from you that day. But if they joined your list in October, received value from you consistently, & feel like they’ve been in a conversation with you for a month by the time your Black Friday offer lands? That’s a very different situation.
Grow the list. Nurture the list. Build the trust. Do it now so the sale feels easy later.
The businesses that have strong Black Friday seasons are not luckier or more talented than everyone else. They started earlier. They tested before the pressure was on. They showed up for their audience before they needed anything from them.
If you’re sitting here in mid-October wondering whether it’s too late to have a good Black Friday, it’s not! But it will be if you wait another two weeks.
